Basic Watermelon Margarita

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cubed watermelon, rind and seeds removed
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 3 ounces triple sec
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • Lemon wedge
  • Super-fine sugar
  • Watermelon for garnish
  • Mint sprig

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the watermelon, tequila, triple sec, and crushed ice. Blend until smooth.
  2. Run the lemon wedge around the rims of three margarita glasses.
  3. Spread the sugar on a plate in a thin, even layer; dip the wetted rims into the sugar.
  4. Carefully pour in the margarita.
  5. Garnish with the watermelon and mint sprig.

On the Rocks Variation

To make this margarita on the rocks, leave the ice out and increase watermelon to three cups. Blend all other ingredients as listed, and then pour over the ice.

Jalapeno Grapefruit Watermelon Margarita

Add a little spice to your margarita. This version replaces triple sec with grapefruit jalapeno vodka (Svedka has a tasty version). It serves three.

Jalapeno Grapefruit Watermelon

Ingredients

  • 3 cups cubed watermelon, seeds and rind removed
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 2 ounces grapefruit jalapeno vodka
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • Grapefruit wedge
  • Pink sprinkles or superfine sugar mixed with red food coloring

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the watermelon, tequila, grapefruit jalapeno vodka, and ice. Blend until smooth.
  2. Run a wedge of grapefruit around the rims of your margarita glasses.
  3. Place the sprinkles on a plate in an even layer. Dip the rims of the glasses into the sprinkles.
  4. Pour in the margarita and serve.

On the Rocks Variation

Omit the crushed ice. Add 1/2 cup of grapefruit juice to the mixture. Blend. Pour over ice.

Watermelon and Blood Orange Margarita

This makes a sweet margarita with a rich red color. It serves three.

Blood Orange Margaritas

Ingredients

  • 2 cups cubed watermelon, rind and seeds removed
  • 1 cup freshly squeezed blood orange juice
  • 3 ounces tequila
  • 2 ounces triple sec
  • 2 cups crushed ice
  • Blood orange wedge
  • Margarita salt
  • 3 blood orange slices

Instructions

  1. In a blender, combine the watermelon, blood orange juice, tequila, triple sec, and ice. Blend until smooth.
  2. Run the blood orange wedge around the rims of three margarita glasses.
  3. Spread the margarita salt in a thin, even layer on a small plate. Dip the wetted rims of the glasses in the salt.
  4. Carefully pour in the margaritas.
  5. Garnish with the orange slices.

On the Rocks Variation

Omit the ice. Blend all other ingredients in a blender. Pour over ice.
