St. Patrick's Day drinks can make celebrating this holiday just a little merrier. Of course, you should always drink responsibly, but that doesn't mean you can't have a little fun. After all, everyone's Irish on St. Patrick's day.
Having a pint of stout, or Guinness, is one Irish tradition that becomes extremely popular on this holiday.
The following pages include more traditional Irish beverages as well as a few St. Patrick's Day green drinks that so many people love.
Straight up or on the rocks, good old Irish whiskey is the drink of the day for many St. Patrick's Day revelers.
A true Irish martini contains 3 ounces of vodka, 1/2 ounce vermouth and 1/2 ounce Irish whiskey, shaken or stirred as you prefer.
However, some people just don't feel like they're celebrating this holiday unless their beverage is green. In this case, shake 3 ounces of gin and 1/2 ounce of Green Chartreuse together with ice, and strain the contents into a martini glass.
If that doesn't appeal to you, you can have a green apple martini instead.
Green creme de menthe makes a powerfully minty shooter.
If that sounds a little too strong for your tastes, try a shot of green chartreuse or Midori instead. None of these beverages are traditionally Irish, but the green color does fit the spirit of the day.
Green beer is a huge draw for pubs on St. Patrick's Day, but it's easy enough to make your own at home. Simply add a drop of green food coloring to a mug before you pour your favorite beer. The color shows up best on lighter beers.
Irish coffee is delicious. Simply add 1 ounce of Irish whiskey and 1 teaspoon of brown sugar to hot, black coffee and stir. You can stir in some cream, but it's traditional to float it on top of the beverage.
Simple yet delicious, a shot of Irish cream is a cocktail in itself. Baileys brand contains real Irish cream, Irish whiskey, sugar and a hint of cocoa.
